Robert J. Brown
About
Mr. Brown is the managing partner of Brown Gavalas & Fromm. He concentrates his litigation practice in the fields of aviation, admiralty, insurance coverage and liability defense. He has tried and arbitrated cases throughout the United States. Mr. Brown is a strategist whose applied talents often bring problems of the most difficult order to a practical, cost effective and swift resolution.
Mr. Brown graduated from Hobart College in 1978, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Thereafter, he attended Rutgers University School of Law, graduating in 1981 with a Juris Doctor. He also studied at Oxford University in subjects relating to international law. Mr. Brown is admitted to practice law in the state courts of New York and New Jersey and in the federal district courts for the District of New Jersey and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Mr. Brown's memberships include the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the New Jersey Bar Association, the Maritime Law Association, the Association of the Port of New York, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Lawyer Pilots Association and the Association of Average Adjusters of the United States. Mr. Brown has also published several articles in the areas of maritime and insurance law. He has given numerous lectures and speeches to the insurance industry on various topics including Reservation of an Insurer's Rights, the Duty to Defend, Lead and Following Clauses in Insurance and Reinsurance Policies, Avoiding Bad Faith Insurance Claims and various other topics relating to insurers' duties and obligations.
Mr. Brown is also active in his local community where he serves as a volunteer fireman, scout leader and youth lacrosse coach, and is a Chairman of "Willing Hands," a work-study program for developmentally disabled adults.
